<image:title>BLOG - A Conversation with the Artist: Isa Kriegeskotte - Isa in Essex</image:title>
<image:caption>Well before Isa was described in the Hollywood Reporter as “a secret weapon whispered about among red carpet stylists like Erin Walsh and Kate Young,” she was looking forward to annual family trips to the Adirondacks. Each year the Kriegeskotte’s would vacation across the lake in Vergennes, but come July a group of family and friends would pile into their steamboats and make the long-awaited trip across Lake Champlain to Essex. The destination, the little ice cream shop on the Essex Main street. Isa loved this tradition and how over the years Essex became a beloved town to her family. In addition to ice cream and Essex, the Kriegeskottes have deep roots in Camp Poko-Macready. Isa’s father, Carl Alden Kriegeskotte, aka “C.A. Krieg,” spent his childhood summers at Camp Pok-O-Moonshine. Isa and her brother, Christian were fortunate enough to follow in their father’s footsteps as the next generation of campers. Isa even went on to work at the camp. Once Isa’s work as a couture tailor relocated her life to LA she was no longer able to visit the cherished mountains of her youth as much as she would have liked, but she returned for that annual summer trip whenever possible.</image:caption>

      <image:title>BLOG - A Conversation with the Artist: Isa Kriegeskotte</image:title>
<image:caption>In 2020 COVID hit, leaving Isa displaced from her home and career. She took the opportunity to pack up her business, and head somewhere new. Around the same time the Kriegeskottes received sad news. Carl, who had suffered from pancreatic cancer over the years, was given a grim diagnosis. He only had 6 months left to live. As time grew scarce the family decided to reunite over a common love, Essex and the Adirondacks. Carl’s final visit to Essex was a chance for all of them to reconnect and indulge in the simple pleasures that they had enjoyed as a family before sickness and distance. Carl passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021. The family has since set up a scholarship fund in his memory. All donations will go towards helping to make the enriching experience of outdoor education accessible to future generations of Pok-O campers. Isa shared this site with me after our interview. I knew that her father was sick and had passed away, but we had never spoken in depth about his life. The scholarship page includes a brief but beautiful bio about Carl. It details a full and awe inspiring life. Reading these words provided me with new insight into Isa’s background, and added to my understanding of the role her roots have played in her life and career.</image:caption>

<image:title>BLOG - A Conversation with the Artist: Isa Kriegeskotte - Why I Love This Line</image:title>
<image:caption>When Isa and I decided that I would sell Living Pearl at Kit+Syl she gifted me a piece of jewelry of my choosing. I was delighted. After trying on a few options I selected the Bunny Hole hoops. They are light, playful, and confidently designed. This is the first piece I have worn outside of my own work since I began making jewelry, and it feels like an absolute treat. Living Pearl’s premiere line is refreshingly quirky. It hits on two levels. First with its beauty. The admirer is drawn in by classic shapes, precious metals and the allure of gems. At a closer look the pieces strike with a burst of joy. The collection contains rings that open to reveal hidden spaces, a pair of lips delicately holding a ruby, beautiful enough to eat. There is even a nod to original sin with an apple pendant grasped in the curves of a snake. Of course the apple is also a locket meant to safely enclose your best kept secrets. Isa designed this line with the goal of creating high quality, but affordable pieces. There are options made of 100% recycled brass, plated in a thick level of 14k gold, and adorned with crystals. There are also various fine pieces available, fabricated in pure 14k gold and detailed with tasteful precious gems such as rubies, diamonds and emeralds. The branding is perfect. A concept well earned after years of challenging work just as an oyster takes the painful presence of a grain of sand, and turns it into something unique and magical. I’m pleased to report that we can already look forward to seeing more from Living Pearl. Isa has been working on rendering the next collection, a line fittingly inspired by nature. Down the road Isa plans to return to her home medium of fabric and will expand Living Pearl to include clothing. Operating out of a storefront means that I often encounter curious Essex visitors. They are not shy about sharing how perplexed and awestruck they are by our extreme way of life up here in the North Country. I assure each of them that what Essex lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. Isa passes these standards with flying colors. I am just as charmed by this force of a woman as I was the day I met her. Isa’s thoughtful relationship to her career, her modesty, her talent and her work ethic have already inspired my relationship to my own business and art practice. I am so grateful that she has chosen the road less travelled here in Essex.</image:caption>

<image:title>BLOG - Valentine’s Week Pop-Up at Kit+Syl Studio featuring: True Path Oracle - I’ve met Reagan Monarch twice so far. Unbeknown to me until our second meeting, the first time was at the Saranac Lake Hotel Farmer’s Market. This was about a year ago. The first and only time I held a table at this market. Reagan bought a pair of my earrings. We chatted while I boxed up her purchase. Turns out we lived fairly close to each other, and that she worked as an art teacher in the Willsboro school district (a rather beloved art teacher, I now understand). That was an unexpectedly successful market for me. I planned on attending again this year, but then, well you know, COVID. Skip ahead to the winter of 2020, and Melissa Maki of Gratitude for Wellness messages me. She has a friend who she thinks I should connect with. This friend is an artist who is working on a line of ornaments that I might want to sell in the store. Turns out this friend is Reagan. At this point, I have not made the connection that my and Reagan’s paths have already crossed. In January I began planning the pop-up series for Valentine’s week. Melissa once again suggested that I reach out to Reagan. I thought, wow, Melissa must really be impressed with this woman’s work. Trusting that Melissa would not steer me wrong I reach out to Reagan a second time- does she want to hold a pop-up on one of the days of the week leading up to Valentine’s Day?</image:title>
<image:caption>Reagan is enthusiastic about participating in the pop-up and claims the main attraction- 2/14. We set a time for her to come by and see the shop. When we meet in person she reminds me that this is not our first introduction, and she is actually the owner of a pair of my earrings. Yes! Now I remember. I love moments like this. A funny reconnecting of energies in the universe. Reagan supported my business that day at the market, and now I have a chance to help spread the word about her work with True Path Oracle.</image:caption>

<image:title>BLOG - Valentine’s Week Pop-Up at Kit+Syl Studio featuring: Thankful Sage Farm School - There is a long list of perks that coincide with owning this shop. I am constantly meeting local talent as well as wonderful members of our community, and I am enveloped in sensory bliss the moment I step into “work.” Discovering products that earn my loyalty as a shopper is my favorite sales strategy. Selling a product becomes extremely easy when you can vouch for it heartily and based on personal experience. Thankful Sage Farm School has become one such product line. If you visit my home you will find each soap dish balancing a bar of Thankful Sage soap. When you visit Kit+Syl Studio you will find me enjoying the aroma of one of their beeswax or soy-based candles, and for some odd reason you find yourself at my mom’s house you will see that her cast iron pans are perfectly seasoned with Thankful Sage’s Cast Iron seasoning.</image:title>
<image:caption>What I love most about proprietress, Nichole Gerding’s products is that they are each a feast for the senses. To be honest, I used to think that a candle or a bar of soap was a thoughtless gift, reserved for those times that you have no idea what else to get the person. After learning this line, I now feel completely differently. Nicky’s soaps are all unique in scent and style. My favorite bar to give as a gift is “Wildflowers.” Each bar mirrors its floral scent with a generous dressing of dried buds and petals. I feel like I am receiving the most beautiful gift when it’s time to restock, and I unwrap my order. I peel back the paper, and there they are, 10 bars neatly stacked back-to-back, a secret garden. “Wildflowers” mesmerize me with their lacey beauty, but I have to say Nicky’s “Dirt” soap brings me the most joy. It actually smells like fresh soil! Much of our community has a deep understanding of the value of good soil, so this bar fits like a glove.</image:caption>

She began gardening professionally in 2016 and quickly realized that the garden provided the perfect space with which to continue the exploration of this relationship. Teddi has been professionally and creatively at home in the Adirondack soil for the past 8 years, and is proud to have built a business that services the Champlain Valley and surrounding areas. She is passionate about creating four-season gardens that provide year-round beauty, interest and habitat— with a special focus on designs that remain engaging throughout the long North Country winters. Teddi’s favorite gardens blend edibles and ornamentals, creating spaces that are not only beautiful, but are functional, nourishing, and deeply connected to place. Due to Teddi’s background in art and design, she brings a creative sensibility and a love of problem solving to each project. She believes that collaboration is the root of building a successful client/garden/gardener relationship. She strives to foster this collaboration through open communication and trust. Teddi spends the off-season expanding her knowledge of design and plant science with the goal of strengthening Kit+Syl’s services and offerings by the return of each spring. The gardening ethos of Kit+Syl is rooted in sustainable, organic practices that prioritize the health of our environment, clients and the “co-gardeners” or bees, bugs, birds and critters who share the Adirondack Park alongside us. We are committed to providing a high-end service to all of our clients no matter how big or small the garden. In addition, we are proud to source our plants and materials from local farmers, growers and small businesses whenever possible.</image:title>

      <image:title>ABOUT - Why Kit+Syl?</image:title>
<image:caption>Kit+Syl, is named in honor of Teddi’s first human sources of inspiration, her compulsively stylish grandmothers, Kitty Rogers and Sylvia Fader. They introduced Teddi to many kinds of beauty, the power of style, and the voice that comes with truly owning your unique aesthetic. She is grateful to them everyday for planting these seeds.</image:caption>
